IWTO Members Shortlisted for Innovation Award

IWTO is pleased to report that scientists from two of its members have been shortlisted for the DFNI Innovation Award 2017.

Frederik Cloppenburg and Marie-Isabel Popzyk of RWTH Aachen University and Stéphane Thouvay of The Südwolle Group were named to the list of five finalists by the Discover Natural Fibres Initiative.

Along with Maik Wonneberger from INVENT GmbH and and Günter Wuzella of Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH, the finalists have presented a diverse set of technologies and approaches, each with good commerical possibilities, according to the DNFI.

 The DNFI Natural Fibres Award recognizes innovation in the development of products and processes using natural fibres and research involving natural fibres.

Terry Townsend, Chair of DNFI, former Executive Director of the International Cotton Advisory Committee, noted that many submissions were of exceptional quality. He said that choosing the five finalists had been a very difficult process, and thanked all who had made submissions.

Winner to be Chosen through Worldwide Open Voting

While the shortlist was selected by a committtee of DNFI members, this year's winner will be chosen via vote by public jury.

Vote by public jury will select  the winner be part of the nomination process. DNFI invites anyone, anywhere in the world, to vote. Descriptions of the projects are available on the DNFI website (iwth registration).

Winners will be accounced on 6 October.
