Foot and Mouth Disease in UK under Control

Brussels, 27.08.2007

Dear Members,

Since the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in the UK begin of August 2007, there have been no further cases of Foot and Mouth Disease reported. Most of the restrictions on the movement of cattle, sheep and pigs within the UK have now been lifted. In addition, the EU Commission agreed to lift the ban on imports from the UK of animals, meat and dairy products again.

The British National Committee of IWTO is continuing to work closely with the relevant UK Government Department to put in place acceptable certification arrangements for exports of wool and hair to countries outside the EU, and agreement is being reached with a number of the main markets for a resumption of wool exports.
