Introduction

The purpose of International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) is to position and to value wool clearly in the consumer's mind as a material, which is desirable for its technical, ethical and comfortable values. To realise that, IWTO wants to promote and support education in the textile sector as well as increase awareness of the unique properties of wool and wool blend products around the world by targeting selected textiles/ technical textiles/fashion/apparel/design universities, academies and schools and commercial companies. The project is funded by Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI).

Project

The International Student Exchange Programme is offered to students and employees from around the world. This project is aimed at strengthening links between wool industry and education institutions by enabling young talented people to undertake industrial and academic placements in companies or organisations active in the wool sector, especially dealing with Australian wool. 10 candidates will be involved in the programme in 2005. Successful applicants will be offered a 3-6 months traineeship in one of the companies or organisations that are active across the wool pipeline from sheep to shop. The location of the traineeship will be relevant to the participants' educational profile and preference.

Applicants

The program is open to students from textile and fashion universities / schools and to employees currently working in the textile industry

Conditions

Applicants should have excellent motivation, be open-minded, curious and passionate about wool textiles.

Prize

For the 10 successful candidates IWTO provides the following benefits:
1. placement at a company/organisation within the wool processing pipeline;
2. a contribution towards travel costs; and
3. a contribution towards accommodation costs.

The total value of financial support per candidate is approximately $AU5, 000.

The winners are required to deliver a report detailing their experiences (approx 3 pages A4) to IWTO Head Office within 2 weeks of completing their placement.

  • Application form
  • Resume (CV) with photoCopies of diplomas and certificates
  • Motivation letter
  • One reference letter (from a professional individual, not limited to professors)

Note: IWTO will not return the documents to the applicants. IWTO will file all applications in its database.

  • Time frame
  • 31 December 2004 - deadline for sending applications
  • Mid January 2005 - the final Selection Panel Meeting
  • January/February 2005 - informing and briefing of the 10 successful candidate, arranging details concerning location / period of the placement
  • February/March 2005 - sending the chosen candidates to the relevant companies for the placements
  • July/August 2005 - evaluation of the "International Student Exchange Programme" on the basis of experience reports delivered by placements.
